On Saturday June 12, 2011 MMG/Mott Hall high school students performed at the Vision Jazz Festival which was held at the Abrons Center in Manhattan. This is a very prestigious international festival and the students had the opportunity to represent their hard work and dedication. Percussion teaching artist, Juan Pablo Carletti, created a program that was very appropriate for this type of festival. The students played through a cycle of multi rhythmic patterns and mixed this with Tito Puente and John Coltrane themes.
The audience was very appreciative and applauded loudly, especially after saxophonist Rodolfo Polanco’s solos. The students were invited to participate in the grand finale which was a performance by an 80 piece orchestra conducted by William Parker. In all, we had a great experience and the students were certainly inspired. Best of all,The Multicultural Music group was invited to perform in next year’s festival.
