2025 Multicultural Music Encounters
Multicultural Music Encounters: 30th Anniversary Retrospective presenting original symphonic works commissioned during the MMG’s second decade (2010-2020). The presentation featured the MMG Orchestra performing “Retire 21,” a Tribute to Roberto Clemente; “Journey of the Naturals,” a tribute to the victims of hurricane Katrina; “Darfur Chronicles,” an acknowledgment of the ongoing war in Sudan; “50 Lashes-50 Bullets,” a tribute to Amadou Diallo (2008), a fatal victim of police violence; “Y Tus Papeles,” from the MMG Borders Series focusing on the tensions between the Dominican Republic and Haiti; and “Amazing Grace,” featuring students from the Symphonic Youth Program performing with the MMG Orchestra.
Pride Variety Show
Pride Variety Show featuring bi-lingual performances by Wilfredo Burgos, a solo poetry with vocals act, and members of Las Mariquitas queer salsa band as a duet with vocals, guitar, and hand percussion performing original pieces and popular music arrangements. The event included an open-mic audience participation segment to uplift diverse LGBTQIA+ artists and creatives in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
