Zocalo brass with Matt McDonald

ZOCALO is the place where people gather to meet, socialize, ponder, play checkers, play futbol, sing a song, eat a taco, eat a churro, play guitar, stroll romantically, watch the birds, go to church, hear a speech, daydream, and generally be joyous. Our goal is to play music that brings people together in a similarly joyous way.

Zocalo brass performs original arrangements in a diversity of styles including the music of Byrd, Bruckner, Bjork, Handel, Zappa, Bowie, Ellington, Mingus, Piazzola, Ponce, Donizetti and many others. Zocalo members have performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln center, with great orchestras such as the Boston Symphony and Pops, at festivals such as Tanglewood, Spoleto, Verbier and Marlboro, in the pits of Broadway and Radio City, on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and alongside artists such as Lila Downs, Max Weinberg, Josh Groban, Rufus Wainwright, Paul Giamatti. Zocalo Brass is Hugo Moreno & Chris Scanlon, Trumpets, Bert Hill, Horn, Matt McDonald & George Saenz, Trombones.

Pedro Giraudo’s Tango Quartet @ St Frances Cabrini Shrine

Join us at the historic and beautiful St Frances Cabrini Shrine outdoor lawn for a sunset hour performance by one of MMG’s distinguished feature artists.

Latin Grammy Award-winning Pedro Giraudo and his Tango Quartet are one of the most compelling tango ensembles on the scene today, bringing the beauty and passion of the tango repertoire into the world of chamber music. The quartet’s fervent and virtuosic musical style takes elements from Argentine tango, European classical music, and American jazz. It combines them gracefully and organically, bringing something new and exciting to the form, while retaining all the lushness and beauty that characterizes the genre.
